EDUCATION

KAFC provides education for Fostering Families and to the public at local events, where we promote the recruitment of Foster Carers.

At our AGMs we look to provide the opportunity to hear from a variety of speakers, who share their knowledge, expertise or insight on Fostering related topics. Look out for our next AGM which will be advertised through our EVENTS page.  Please also note that for KCC Foster Carers our AGM’s count as one of your training courses and that alongside the speakers, we provide a lovely lunch and the opportunity to meet and talk with other KCC Foster Carers.

Thank you to our speakers who have presented at our AGM’s in previous years, please see below for information about them.

At our 2023 AGM, we heard from Young Lives Foundation about their expertise and services in Advocacy, Mentoring, Befriending and Activity Programmes for supporting care experienced young people.  Several Foster Carers offered to volunteer to support the charity with the work that they do.  Please have a look at their website to see what they offer and if you are interested how you can volunteer with them (please note that this volunteering would also count towards your Payment for Skills).

Our other speaker in 2023 was Jess Harman, from Kent County Council, who spoke about Prevent.  It was insightful for Foster Carers to have the opportunity to hear from someone who works on this front-line service.  To access information please see the link below.

At our 2022 AGM, Jeremy Indika, spoke with amazing honesty and gave an incredible insight into the grooming process and the personal effect that his sexual abuse as a young child had on him.  We at KAFC, have looked on with interest as his online profile has grown and the breadth and depth of organisations, he is now speaking to, reflects the importance to this subject.  His skilled delivery made this sensitive emotive topic relevant and accessible.  Please have a look at his website for further information. FIGHTING FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE PREVENTION.

Also at our 2022 AGM we were privileged to have Shahana Knight, speak about her personal experiences of growing up with an alcoholic father and how this gave her the focus to work with children, education and foster carers to utilise trauma informed and attachment aware approaches.  Please have a look at her company’s website for further information.

In previous years we have also hosted two Alter Ego Theatre Productions. The first one was ‘Chelsea’s Choice’ which powerfully depicted sexual exploitation and the second one was ‘In the Net’ which highlighted the important consideration of e-safety and cyber bullying.

Sorry if you missed these AGM’s and/or productions, KAFC are always looking at innovative ways of developing foster carers exposure to different subjects so keep an eye on our EVENTS Page for upcoming events.

There is also a whole host of information within our website so please take the time to have a look through.
